New features & UI Changes in Manifest 4.2

Advanced Org Configurations

For domains that utilize Orgs, a new Advanced Org Configuration allows Admins at the root level to control which Contacts users see in Connect. By default, users are able to see all Contacts in their domain, regardless of Org membership. By enabling this new setting, users will only see Contacts with whom they share at least 1 Org. Regardless of the setting, the Connect Org filter now returns users for whom This update closes the loop in ensuring all Manifest windows can respect Org boundaries, enabling multi-customer deployments on a single domain.

Updated AR Note Viewer on iPad

While authors and operators on iPad have always been able to view 3D models without entering AR mode, this update enables users to view pen and shape notes in relation to a 3D model and/or QR code in the same view. When authoring a template or completing a job in 2D, each AR note can be viewed directly in the note viewer. Users also have the ability to hide and show the QR code and switch out the model being shown for maximum flexibility.

New Template/Job UI on 3D

The Manifest 3D Application has an updated Template and Job UI, new and improved – streamlining usability and enabling faster execution when using XR headsets. The redesign not only provides a cleaner view of step information, but enhances the utility of the 2D checklist. Users can now complete steps, view notes/evidence, reassign, initiate Connect calls, and report faults directly from the Job window.

With any procedure that spans over a large asset or area, spatially anchored content may lose accuracy the further it is from the scanned Asset Tag. An Alignment Action is a note type available on iPad and 3D that allows authors and operators to realign Steps to an Alignment Tag at any stage in a procedure. Previously, we have received reports of unexpected tracking inaccuracy while using Alignment Actions and inconsistent results when scanning an Alignment Tag multiple times. Alignment Actions have been refactored to improve the overall accuracy and stability of our Alignment System by:

  • Using a simpler, less error-prone algorithm to calculate offsets for saving and loading Alignment Actions
  • Improving scanning methods to prevent inconsistencies when scanning multiple different QR codes sequentially
  • Reworking error handling and notification windows to provide users with more useful and consistent messages

Three important Notes on Manifest 4.2

Decide which Contacts you want users to see

Orgs provide a powerful paradigm for organizing and managing content and its accessibility. Domains that implement Orgs should decide whether they want these data restrictions to permeate Connect. For some domains, it might be preferred to allow users to chat with and call anyone, while in other domains it might better to restrict users from communicating with those outside their Org branch.

View AR content anywhere

The updated AR Note Viewer empowers users to view and interact with 3D models, pen notes, shape notes, and leader lines no matter their surroundings. If users want a quick view of a step’s spatial content and/or prefer not to enable AR mode, they can now use the 2D note interface to view all 3D content.

Reauthor in-use Alignment Actions

Domains using Alignment Tags in active Templates should reauthor associated Alignment Actions on the 3D app after updating to Manifest 4.2. This can be done by simply deleting and re-adding the Alignment Action to a step.

Support Questions

Will I be automatically upgraded to Manifest 4.2?

For all hosted instances of Manifest, the Manifest Web Application will automatically update to version 4.2. Once released, clients are encouraged to ensure all Manifest 3D and iPadOS applications are upgraded immediately to ensure full compatibility.

If we are using an On-Premise (Manifest for Docker) server, how should we coordinate this update?

Clients using an On-Premise (Manifest for Docker) server should not update Manifest 3D or Manifest iPadOS applications to version 4.2 until their Docker instance is updated to a compatible version.

What can I expect if I do not update the Manifest 3D or Manifest iPadOS application(s) to v. 4.0?

Manifest 3D and Manifest iPadOS application(s) running v. 4.1 or earlier will encounter minor compatibility issues due to the changes introduced by 4.2. While many views and features may continue to work without updating, clients should update all Manifest applications to 4.2 upon release to ensure application and data stability.

Alignment Actions

Alignment Actions should be used in templates that span over a large asset or area, as spatially anchored content may lose accuracy the further it is from the scanned Asset Tag. Generally, we recommend using Alignment Actions on Steps if authoring spatial content more than 1-2 meters aways from the Asset Tags. However, it depends on use case and required accuracy. For each centimeter of accuracy required, use Alignment Actions when spatial content is placed the same number of meters away. For example, if you’re trying to be precise to the 2 cm, begin using Alignment Actions at 2 meters of distance, but if you’re working at 5 cm accuracy, you can go as far out as 5 meters and get good results.

If the Alignment Actions in my Templates have been working as expected, do I still need to reauthor?

Yes, you should still reauthor your Alignment Actions. Because we updated how we calculate the Alignment offsets, Alignment Actions authored on previous versions of Manifest will no longer be accurate and might move your spatial content to the wrong location.

To reauthor existing Alignment Actions in your Templates, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log into your domain on web
    • Create new draft of Template
    • Delete all Alignment Actions, noting which steps they are on
    • Save
  2. Log into 3D
    • Edit the Template draft
    • For each step that had an Alignment Action:
      • Select Pencil/’Edit’ icon
      • Via the Notes dropdown, add a new Alignment Action
      • Scan the Alignment Tag (same as used before)
      • Ensure all spatial data is placed correctly and reposition if needed
    • Save, Submit, Approve, and Publish the Template

How do I ensure accurate alignment?

To ensure accurate alignment throughout templates/jobs, we have a few tips:

  • Look around your space before scanning the Alignment tag (during Authoring and Jobs)
  • Ensure physical tags are well-lit and on a flat surface
  • Avoid placing spatial content more than 2 meters from the Tag being used
